She was a beloved member of the Nimitz and New Bern, NC communities. Throughout her life, Linda—who was born on January 13, 1946, in Hinton—embodied kindness and generosity. She was a hard worker who devoted herself to her hairdressing job, data entry, and the shipping and distribution department at Sears.

She was fully committed to her home and family as well as her career; she took great joy in caring for her mother-in-law. Linda was a woman of great faith; she was a committed Christian and a vibrant presence at Bluestone Baptist Church. Ephesians 4:32 describes her life well; she was a living embodiment of the qualities listed there, and she showed them to everyone she met.

Susan Lilly, her daughter from her marriage to Jay Lilly of 55 years, as well as her siblings, nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren, will carry on her legacy. Her sisters Patty Lindsay, Nancy Shrader, and Frankie Willey all passed away before her. The family had a private burial ceremony for Linda at the Lilly-Crews Cemetery on Saturday, December 2, 2023.

It was a somber occasion. In his role as celebrant and minister, Pastor Bill Fox paid tribute to a woman whose life had a profound impact on those she met.
